I’m Carlos, a product design engineer based in Barcelona. I studied Industrial Design at TU/e and a master’s in Industrial Design Engineering at ELISAVA, working on HIDRA, a modular helmet system for downhill skateboarding.
My passion for design comes from downhill skateboarding, where I grew fascinated by the technicality of the hardware behind it. That curiosity grew into a broader passion for solving real problems through design.
I’ve worked at Fabrez and Aiklo, gaining experience in fabrication and product development. My strongest skill is bringing physical products to life, from concept to a real, functioning object.

PROFESIONAL IDENTITY AND VISION
IDENTITY
Building Functional Objects
I’m a designer driven by curiosity and physical exploration, but what defines me most is the drive to create functional, tangible objects. I thrive in the prototyping phase, where an idea becomes something real that works.
Mastering CAD as a Language
My core strength is CAD modelling. Through Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Rhino, and Blender, I can translate almost any concept into a precise, buildable model, adapting my tool to whatever the project demands.
Advanced Manufacturing Processes
I have focused on learning manufacturing processes beyond the basics. At Fabrez, I worked with sheet metal fabrication, developing large assemblies with complex fittings and joints. Alongside this, my training in additive manufacturing covers a wide range of materials and processes, from FDM to more advanced technologies.
Designing for New Technologies
My thesis pushed this further. I focused on designing specifically for MJF, a manufacturing process still emerging in product applications, and learned to simulate complex geometries in nTop, connecting design intent directly to structural performance.
VISION
Solving Real Problems
I know it might sound like a cliché, but for me, design is about creating new products that solve real physical problems. Too often, design hides its shortcomings behind a polished surface, only to cause harm in other ways, like the waste it generates.
Designing for Humanity, Not Just the User
Good design should be centered on the user, but it should also be centered on humanity. I think carefully about the environmental impact of what I design, and I hold myself responsible for the consequences of putting a new object into the world.
Designing for Repair, Not Replacement
No product is immune to failure. Even parts that aren’t designed to break can wear down or fail with use. I believe products should be designed openly, so that when a piece breaks, the user can replace only that piece, not the entire object.
Manufacturing on Demand
This is part of why additive manufacturing matters to me beyond the technical skill itself: it allows production on demand, without generating large quantities of waste from overproduction or unsold stock.
